"Designing Learning with AI Chatbots Seminar to Explore the Future of STEM Education" - ERASMUS+ Teacher academy AcaSTEMy 8th Hybrid Seminar - University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu, 12. 05. 2026 (14:00 UTC+3)- 15:00H (CET)
On 12 May 2026, the University of Eastern Finland, ERASMUS+ acaSTEMy project partner, will host the hybrid seminar "Designing Learning with AI Chatbots AcaSTEMy Hybrid Seminar", bringing together researchers, educators, and students interested in the future of artificial intelligence in STEM education.
The seminar will combine in first part international online participation with local workshops at the Joensuu campus, in the second part of Seminar, offering participants both theoretical perspectives and practical experiences with AI-powered educational tools. The event will begin with a welcome session followed by a keynote presentation by Teemu Valtonen, who will discuss the philosophy behind AI chatbots in STEM education. The presentation will explore how AI technologies are reshaping teaching practices, learning environments, and educational interaction. Following the keynote, Lais Oliveira Leite will present a demonstration and discussion on the use of SchoolAI in research. Participants will be introduced to current applications of AI chatbots in educational settings and invited to reflect on their pedagogical potential. After a coffee break in the Natura lobby, local participants will continue with hands-on activities and group discussions on the second floor of the Natura building. The afternoon programme will include a visit to the LUMA Centre Finland initiative Science Adventures Eastern Finland, presented by Niko Kyllönen. The seminar will conclude with an interactive workshop on SchoolAI chatbots led by Justus Kinnunen and Thomas Viik. Participants will explore practical uses of AI chatbots in education and experiment with designing learning activities supported by conversational AI.
The 8th AcaSTEMy seminar is one of activities of Teacher academy with focus on the growing importance of AI literacy and pedagogically meaningful uses of AI technologies in education. By combining research insights with practical experimentation, the event aims to create a collaborative environment for discussing the future of learning with AI.
